5 Company Milestones You Can Capitalize On Now

Need Fresh Story Angles? Check the Mirror For Your Next Pitch Idea.

Whether you're refining the next batch of social content or you're looking ahead to PR opportunities, finding fresh, new things to share with your followers or pitch to media can be tricky. Before you get overwhelmed, take a look in the mirror. We're talking about looking at your company and/or brand and thinking about milestones you’re nearing.

More likely than not, you have at least one of the following milestones approaching in your brand's timeline!

1. Years in Business

1 year? 5 years? 10 years? We all know it's important to celebrate the wins, but your customers should know about them too! Each year in business is worthy of a celebration, but especially the milestone years. This is the perfect time to share what your company has accomplished.

Pro Tip: If you’re not comfortable sharing sales numbers, you can tell your company’s financial success story by sharing other metrics, such as the percentage of growth year or year, or the increase in the number of employees to show how your company has scaled.

2. Collective Volunteer Hours

If you've already emphasized the importance of volunteerism for your brand and employees, you've likely racked up a lot of collective hours. Share the amount of time your team has volunteered and the missions you're supporting to ensure your audience knows what's important to you as a brand. Studies have continually shown that people are more like to support brands that do good in the communities they serve.

3. Money Contributed to a Good Cause

This is a great milestone to share, but must be done with tact. It's important to make sure your excitement for your donations doesn't come across as a distasteful PR ploy.

4. Racial and Gender Policy Shifts

As the importance and necessity of inclusion and equality continue to be part of the conversation, it's important to share how you're moving forward, too. It's beneficial to let your clients and customers (past, current, and future), as well as prospective employees, know where your company stands. It will likely prove beneficial to bring your HR Department (or an HR consultant) into the mix when discussing these topics to ensure the proper language is used.

5. Leadership Hires and Retirements

Not only does this honor the great contributions of the individual who founded and/or shaped and led the brand, but it also recognizes these important figures and their legacy. On top of that, it gives your brand an opportunity to share who will be taking over the newly vacant role and instill confidence within your customers and clients.

*PR Pro Tip*

If your company has a number in its name, use it to your benefit! For example, the fictitious golf apparel brand, 9th Hole, would benefit from a huge 9th Anniversary promotion.
